There's no better way to celebrate a special moment than to focus one's attention on love, and Days of our Lives is doing just that as it marks its 55th anniversary, which falls on Sunday, November 8, but will begin on-screen on Friday, November 6.
The NBC soap opera will be featuring a storyline that revolves around longtime couple Jack (Matthew Ashford) and Jennifer (normally played by Melissa Reeves but temporarily being played by Cady McClain during the pandemic), who are surrounded by family and friends as they celebrate their anniversary.
"This is an even bigger than usual November, because Days of Our Lives is celebrating its 55th anniversary," teases the show's head writer, Ron Carlivati, in a November Sweeps interview given to She Knows. "So there's the big party that Gwen [Emily O'Brien] is throwing for Jack and Jennifer to celebrate the anniversary of their wedding as well as her coming out of the coma. And of course, we all know that something very big is going to go down during the festivities because, hey, why else have a big, splashy party on a soap?"
According to Yahoo! News, the big thing set to rip apart the happy moment is a letter that Jack wrote to Kate (Lauren Koslow) -- which Jack and Jennifer's daughter, Abigail (Marci Miller), is the one to find. As DAYS viewers know, the letter reveals a fact that could destroy the Deveraux family: Jack was unfaithful to Jennifer while she was in her coma.
Meanwhile, another of DAYS' supercouples -- John (Drake Hogestyn) and Marlena (Deidre Hall) -- will also have their day in the sun for the soap's 55th birthday. The iconic pair will reminisce about their own years of marriage -- which include more than a handful of trips down the aisle!
Adds Carlivati, "There's some big stuff coming up for them that I don't really want to give away quite yet. But look, ever since the show lost Tom and Alice Horton, John and Marlena have become that central matriarch and patriarch. So they're always going to be important to me, and they'll always be in story."
DAYS has yet to reveal if it has any further plans to celebrate its 55th anniversary, so keep checking back to Soap Central for updates as they come.
